More and more people are replacing cannabis with alcohol.

Alcohol consumption continues to decrease among younger generations. In large part, this is attributed to increased research into and awareness of the negative health effects of alcohol.

Additionally, drinking less has become a lot easier thanks to comparable alcohol alternatives like cannabis beverages. A recent survey of Crescent Canna customers found that almost a fourth (24%) of respondents had quit alcohol entirely before or since consuming THC beverages.

Switching to cannabis has become so popular that the lifestyle has gotten a name of its own: California Sober.

What is California Sober?

To be California Sober is to abstain from consuming alcohol while using cannabis or psychedelics in moderation. It offers a departure from the traditional notion of sobriety, allowing individuals to enjoy an intoxicating buzz while avoiding the harmful effects associated with excessive alcohol consumption.

Advantages Over Traditional Sobriety

The big advantage that California Sobriety has over traditional sobriety is its greater flexibility, making it a more practical approach to removing alcohol from your life.

Quitting all intoxicating substances cold turkey can be very stressful to the mind and body. The more gradual and intermediate approach of going California Sober entails less pressure and less of a shock to the system.

Cannabis as an Alternative to Alcohol

Many bars offer Crescent 9 THC Seltzer as an alternative to alcohol.

According to a 2023 Civic Science survey, 21% of Dry January participants used cannabis products to stay sober.

Cannabis is such a popular alternative to alcohol because it offers a similar experience, providing relaxing and euphoric effects along with serving as a social lubricant. Fast-acting, THC drinks even take effect as quickly as alcohol, with a buzz kicking in around 15 minutes after consumption.

Many people, not being fans of the hangovers or long-term health risks of alcohol, prefer the experience of cannabis. They like the buzz. They also like the fact that cannabis beverages are healthier, have fewer calories, and offer wellness benefits.

Challenges of Being California Sober

Despite its growing popularity, embracing the California Sober lifestyle isn’t always easy. Many social situations are dominated by alcohol, which can make staying fully California Sober difficult.

However, due to the increasing number of bars carrying THC drinks, it’s becoming more common for cannabis options to be in social settings.  Additionally, due to the rise of hemp- derived cannabis products available online, adults across the country can easily access and order THC edibles.

It is also true that in many communities, the use of cannabis products still comes with a certain stigma; some people see it as a vice rather than as a valid alternative to alcohol. However, public opinion is shifting. A 2022 Pew Research Center Study found that 59% of respondents believe that cannabis should be legal for both medical and recreational use and that only 10% oppose the legalization of cannabis for any use.

Go California Sober With Cannabis

By promoting cannabis products as a viable alternative to alcohol, the California Sober movement offers individuals a healthier way to unwind and socialize.

While challenges remain, the increasing preference for cannabis suggests that the tide may turn in favor of California Sober living. As attitudes continue to evolve, more people are choosing to embrace this lifestyle, prioritizing their well-being while enjoying the benefits of alternative substances.
